Ugly Hill Press was founded in July 2022 by me, Deborah Coddington after I sold The Martinborough Bookshop, which I opened in May 2019 - the first bookshop ever in the historical Wairarapa town.

As somebody once said, a town without a bookshop is a town without a soul.

I've largely made my living working with books, magazines, and words since 1971 when I trained as a journalist. I wrote for magazines, newspapers, worked as a broadcaster, proofreader, editor, author, and as a publisher in the 1970s and 1980s, before moving back to journalism and writing books.

Now I have decided to return to publishing and create beautiful books with lasting content.
